Western Hemlock

WHY KD WESTERN HEMLOCK?

Western Hemlock is the single most plentiful tree specie in the upper Western United States and coastal regions of British Columbia, Canada. It is an established soft wood specie that provides a beautiful pale color with a uniform, attractive grain pattern. The kiln-drying process inhibits natural staining of the wood, improves its strength and stiffness, enhances appearance and increases resistance to decay and attack from insects.

A NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL WOOD. ALL CLEAR GRADE VERTICAL GRAIN FIBER.

The characteristics of Western Hemlock include heartwood that is a light, reddish brown with a slight purple tinge. The sapwood may be slightly lighter in color but is difficult to distinguish from the heartwood. All inventory items are stocked in C and Better grade and all Vertical Grain. Occasionally, boards may contain a sound and small, black pin knot or dark bark streaks. The fine texture, tight grain pattern and even density make for excellent machining properties. It turns, planes and shapes well. When properly finished and maintained, Western Hemlock is an ideal choice as a bevel siding. In the early 1900’s Western Hemlock was one of the primary bevel sidings installed nationwide. With today’s scarcity of supply, especially in finger jointed Western Red Cedar bevel, solid and oil primed, C and Better Western Hemlock is a beautiful and cost effective alternative. Because it is resin-free, bleeding after painting is not a concern.
